MY TOP 5 FAVOURITE PLACES IN 2013

MY TOP 5 FAVOURITE PLACES IN 2013

This year as every other year has flown by in a blink of an eye (cliche intended). As university finished and now christmas passed l began to reflect back on the year and highlight what l have been able to see and accomplish. This year l was unable to spend most of it travelling however l did get the chance to see some cities/countries. January began with my europe winter trip where l was in Bosnia & Herzegovina, then back to my former home (exchange semester) in Jonkoping, Sweden. I then went back to Nancy, France and up to Amsterdam to finish off the trip.
Once l was back in Australia it took me only one week to book my next holiday to Los Angeles, USA, Mexico and Havana, Cuba.  In June l jetted off on my first trip other than Europe to North America and the Caribbean. This was absolutely amazing, it opened up my eyes a lot and was an experience that l will forever cherish.
Therefore my 5 favourite places for 2013 are:

5.Guanajuato, Mexico

The beautiful magic town not to far north from the capital Mexico City. The city is immersed with colours and it's perfect for a little day trip if you are in the area. You could also spend months here as well, roaming the streets discovering little hidden gems. Definitely a highlight on my trip to Mexico hidden within the mountains that surround it.

4.Jonkoping, Sweden

Jonkoping is my home away from home. I lived here for 6 months in 2012, so it always feels good to come back here. The city is relatively small however very student oriented, so a lot of social activities happening during the university semesters. It's where l developed a lot of awesome memories and l recommend stopping by if it's somewhat on route on your trip.

3.Nancy, France

Nancy is a beautiful small city in the north-eastern region of Lorraine, France. I spent a relative amount of time here during my recent european adventure and i'm glad l did. I was there during the christmas markets and the city transformed into a winter wonderland. It's a perfect stopover for a several days and it's only 1.5 hours away from Paris (with TGV). Place Stanislas is definitely worth visiting while staying Nancy.
San Cristobal is definitely towards the top of the list, another beautiful magic town in the south of Mexico. The spanish influenced town is wedged between the mountains of Chiapas. It's also a great base location to visit a variety of sites (eg. Palenque and Agua Azul). If you want more information on visiting San Cristobal de la Casas and its surrounding areas, check out my post about it: HERE

This is not only number one for 2013, however its number one for all the places l have visited. I don't know if its my obsession with Cuban culture or what they have to offer, but its a place that l genuinely enjoyed and fell in love with. The people, the city, the vibe is so amazingly different that l was so intrigued. l found it extremely hard to leave. It's somewhere that l can say 100% that l will be back sometime soon and for a lot longer. Highly recommended.

So, what does 2014 have in store?

Next year l already have planned to visit:

- Malaysia
- Cambodia
- Vietnam
- Thailand

and that's only the beginning of the year, lets see where Benedict Lane end up next..

What were your favourite places in 2013?
