We have reached 'Guanajuato' on the 'Travelling through Mexico in 4 weeks'. The beautiful magic town located only 4 hours away from Mexico City and 3 hours away from Guadalajara. We did a day trip to Guanajuato from Irapuato, which l'm glad we did because the city was genuinely charming to see. The small town is easily navigable and you can walk around most of the centre in a few hours. However, it is a place you can see yourself spending a very long time exploring, finding all the hidden gems in little streets. Spending countless hours sipping on coffee and reading your favourite books.
Guanajuato from my perspective is very 'hipster' compared to all the other towns/cities, this might have to do with the fact that it is a university town where a lot of foreigners tend to come and study as well. It'd be an amazing place to do an exchange semester in, the town is centrally located as well as being relatively affordable (coming from Australia). It's pretty cool though being student oriented, provides for a lot of quirky cafes and shops to discover.
If you have the time definitely visit the Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato here, it's awesome. The bodies are naturally mummified which is believed to have been an occurrence due to a Cholera outbreak around 1833. The tour is in Spanish so if you have someone that can translate, take them with you. It's definitely worth seeing it but it is a bit creepy, especially once you reach the babies. It holds the smallest mummy in the world, a fetus from a pregnant woman who fell ill to Cholera.

Overall, Guanajuato is a magical town to visit and l genuinely wish we had an extra few days in our trip to stick around here. It's a unique little place where you can unwind while listening to the amazing mariachi roaming the streets.
What else would you recommend visiting while in Guanajuato?
