ROAMING AROUND TEQUILA

A final post on the "Mexico in Four Weeks" series and what a place to finish off with, TEQUILA. This is a beautiful little town located only 60km away from Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco. We did a little tour through our hostel, where you visit the town of Tequila and a few of the distilleries located nearby.
All l can say about this tour (that is offered from most accommodations) be prepared to be trying some strong tequila before noon.

The first distillery that we visited was Tres Mujeres. This is where we got to learn the whole process of making tequila, from the agave to the drink itself. Then you walk down the long tunnel into darkness that turns into a tequila paradise. You begin by trying the most recent tequila, then three years, five years and seven. They become smoother the older they get. After the tasting you can walk around, purchase some tequila (which l recommend as it's difficult to find outside of Mexico) and try some flavoured styles. By the end you will be on a little buzz around 11am!

After Tres Mujeres you stop by two more distilleries along the way and then have lunch at a beautiful restaurant (amazing view) just out side the town. After you have an hour to explore the town of Tequila. It's a small authentic Mexican town that is rich with history. I recommend exploring the National Tequila Museum, it has a wide range of information on tequila as well as the largest bottle of the spirit.

The one thing l extremely recommend that l forgot to do is actually buy the tequila. A lot of these tequila's are quite difficult to find outside of Mexico, so definitely buy it while you are visiting the distilleries.
Overall it's a good day out where you get to meet a lot of fun people and drink plenty of tequila, what else could you ask for?
