It's been crazy the last two months, which has caused me to drift away from Benedict Lane for a little while. However, I'm back in action now!
I recently got to go on a road trip along the Great Ocean Road, which l should have done a long time ago. I have lived in Victoria for over 14 years and I have never managed to get myself down there and driving along the beautiful cliffs edge. It's not to far from Melbourne, so you can always duck away after a long week at work.

LORNE
We went for a quick weekend away, where we left for Lorne late in the evening after work one Friday. One thing l recommend is not to leave on a rainy/thunderstorm/minor apocalypse night as the drive has really sharp turns on the lead up to Lorne and can be really difficult to see if it's foggy. Either way, once you arrive it's beautiful, the seaside town is a definite stopover. We spent the first night here, in a beautiful cottage at the Great Ocean Road Cottages. An amazing place to stay for backpackers pricing. During the day, go for breakfast along the main strip, countless amazing cafes and take a long stroll along the beach. The scenery is beautiful. The one thing we missed out on is the Erskine Falls, which l've been told by everyone that you should check out. So, if you have the time, make sure you make your way up there!
APOLLO BAY
This is a place that l got told not to stay, because it's to quiet and there isn't much to do. Definitely not true, this was my favourite stay during my short road trip. It was so cosy and beautiful, just a great little spot for a getaway. We stayed at the YHA hostel in Apollo Bay. This definitely has no hostel feel too it, l felt like l was at 5 star hotel (by my standards). The hostel was so nice and clean, and my favourite was that it had a fire place, perfect feature when Victorian weather doesn't want to cooperate. During the day, you can take surf lessons or take a nice stroll down the beach. During the evening, you can head down to Apollo Bay Hotel for some drinks and live music (if you are there for the weekend).
12 APOSTLES
This is a must do, on the road trip (as most blogs would say). I've seen so many photo's and l was like 'this will be nothing special', but it was truly something spectacular when you see it with your own eyes. The walk down is really nice, but warning - it can be really busy with tourists. While you are here make sure you head down to the Gibson Steps as well. Bring some food & drinks and take a walk a bit to the side once you're down the steps, where you can get away from the tourists and relax.
If you have a fascination with lighthouses like l do (still don't know why), then definitely visit the light station at Cape Otway. It's the oldest, surviving light station on mainland Australia. It's also a beautiful place to walk around. They also have a dinosaur museum for a limited time (yes, random) , telegraph station and a WW2 radar bunker. It was genuinely picturesque, as well a being a great stop on the way back from the 12 Apostles.
