ROAD TRIP: SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE IN 9 DAYS

This is a trip that l have always wanted to do. After 21 years in Melbourne it was bound that l eventually take a road trip down the coast and experience some of Australians most beautiful beaches. A friend of mine had moved from the Netherlands, so l took advantage of the moment and organised a mini trip to "show him around" a.k.a pack the car and take the trip l've always wanted since l got my license. We began by driving straight up the Hume Highway in 10 hours from Melbourne to Sydney to get to our staring point. The road trip that we did was:

1. Melbourne -> Sydney (approx. 10 hour drive)
We left Melbourne around 7am and with approximately 2 stops of 20min, we arrived in Sydney around 5pm. The drive was long but when we arrived in Sydney at my brothers, there was no resting time as it was Australia day. We headed down to the Manly Wharf bar which l recommend for a good Sunday session. We ended up staying in Sydney for only 2 days (I definitely recommend another 2 if you want to see more of the sights), where on the 2nd we headed down to Bondi Beach. The beach was overly crowded but it was nice to see what all the buzz was around this iconic destination. It's a nice little walk around but a heads up, the parking around there is impossible.

2. Sydney -> Wollongong (approx. 1.5 hour drive)
This was nice little short drive to start the road trip down the coast. Wollongong was quite a larger city than l had expected. We had a little walk around the city and thought it was pretty nice. However we ended up staying just outside the city in Fairy Meadow at the Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort. The holiday park was really nice and because it was off-peak season we had the unpowered campsite all to ourselves. We stayed here for 1 night.

3. Wollongong -> Huskisson (approx. 2 hour drive)
Huskisson is a beautiful small town on the shores of Jervis Bay. This is probably my favourite destination throughout the road trip and a place that l would definitely come back soon. The white sand and crystal blue waters is all you need. I'll definitely be dedicating a post to this destination very soon with some amazing images accompanying it. We spent 2 nights here.

4. Huskisson -> Narooma (approx. 2 hour drive)
Narooma was a place that you could say is ultimately picturesque, especially on the cliff's edge of the Surf beach Holiday Park. The only downer for us during our stay here was that the weather didn't want to cooperate and we were just waiting for our tent to go flying. We stayed here for 1 night.

5. Narooma -> Merimbula (approx 2 hour drive) Stop: Bega
Merimbula is a really nice holiday destination. It was a place that many people recommended for us to stop in and it definitely was worth it. The small town itself was really cozy but then the beach next to our holiday park (that was probably the best place we camped in) was amazing with a lake on the other side. I definitely don't recommend swimming in the wee hours of the morning, the water is absolutely freezing. We spent 2 nights here.

6. Merimbula -> Melbourne (approx 6.5 hour drive) Stop: Lakes Entrance
This was a long drive back, especially after camping for several days. We were initially going to stop in Lakes Entrance however even though the town was beautiful it was covered in smoke due to the bushfires, so we felt like it would better to head back home. This mean't it had drawn our road trip to an end and with strong winds and rain hitting us on the way back, we couldn't wait to get home. I recommend stopping in Sale on the way home if you have the time, it's a beautiful country town that l love visiting when l get the chance.
